The reservoir is located in the Muga basin, Darnius the municipalities of Sant Llorenç de la Muga and Terrades. The dam was built in 1969.
The top sheet of water when the reservoir is full is 3.6 km2 and has a capacity of 61 hm 3.
In the waters of the reservoir fishery is allowed, and navigation by kayak and boat motor gas (all this activities require permission and specific license).
