Santa Cecília Church

The Santa Cecília de Boadella church is a single nave with side chapels. The building does not appear to be prior to the 16th or 17th centuries. A document that talks about the foundation of the Sant Llorenç Chapel of the Palau-Surroca Castle (in Terrades) also mentions the erection of the Boadella parish in 1343. The current church was quite renovated at the beginning of the 18th century and again at the beginning of the 19th, after the wars with France. The façades are coated and painted, except for the one facing north. This allows us to see the material used, which is formed by river stones. There is also an arched window that seems to be Romanesque and that could belong to the primitive construction of the church of which little remains. The principal façade, facing west, presents a Roman arched gate with not very big voussiors and a very simple rosette. On its top, sits the belfry in the form of a tower and stretched galleries, built in 1818. The vault of the nave is pointed and continuous. The interior remains covered by layers of lime mortar.
