Shacks of Dry Stone

The dry stone structures were originally built by farmers to separate terraces and fields of olive trees and vines. Dry stone refers to the way the lithic material is used in building more than to its geological or chemical nature. The worked or unworked rock pieces conveniently fit to build structures (terraces, walls, weirs and other works) without the need for mortar, cement or paste to hold them together. Building is done by simple correct arrangement, maximum contact between pieces and gravity.
