The Mas Perxés cork tree (Quercus suber) is found on the road from Agullana to La Vajol and at kilometre 1.2 at the entrance to the farmhouse. With a diameter of 7.5 metres and height of 19.5 metres, it is found in a corner shading a table made from a mill wheel and a granite stone bench, close to the house. The Mas Perxés cork tree is an oak also known as the 'Exile tree'. It was witness to the dramatic end of the Spanish Republic, when the house was converted, between January 31st and February 5th, 1939, into the last headquarters of the political and cultural institutions of the Catalan republic. There, the presidents of Catalonia and Euskadi, Lluís Companys and José Antonio de Aguirre, surely confessed their grief to see their Nationalist dreams violently ended.

Suggestions: The cork is in a private farmhouse. Can be visited only with permission of the owners.
