The Avinyonet castle dates from the second half of the 11th century. It was later converted into the commission of the cavalry of the Order of the Hospital. It is quadrangular and was renovated on different occasions. The building presents elements from different chronologies: the square tower and the part of the wall that were added correspond to the 11th century; the building next to the southern wall of the church, that on its less altered part presents a pair of ashlars, is believed to conserve remains of buildings from the 12-13th centuries. Other walls, like that of the voussoir gate, built from unworked stone, are later, possibly from the 15th and 16th centuries. Between this building and the southern wall of the church is a voussoir Roman arch gate, certainly from the ancient entrance to the fort. Currently, it is in a good state of conservation and is still inhabited.
