Sant Pere d'Albanyà is one of the first documented monasteries that appeared to the south of the Pyrenees with the Carolingian domain, fruit of the monastic Benedictine colonization. It was founded around the year 820 by its first abbot, Dòmnul. Shortly after, before 869, it came to depend on the Santa Maria d'Arles abbey in Vallespir. It is unknown when the monastic community of Albanyà was dissolved.
